Frozen Lake

I walked across the frozen lake,
Soaked to the bone, with a chill that I can't shake.
The afternoon it took to give me this head start,
Left me time to look at the shape of our hearts.

You say 'wait, wait by the lake,
In the cabin light a fire.
I'm right behind, don't change your mind
I'll bring you everything you desire.'

How long will it be until you come around?
Sweep me off my feet when I hear the engine's sound.
And I wait wait, it's getting late,
I can't see where you are.
Oh oh oh, the ice and snow,
You promised you would bring my guitar.

Feel the floorboards rattling the beat,
Wind ghosts howling wisdom through the trees,
Patience came from necessity,
So wait for the one that you need.

Turn on the stove, ingite the stale propane,
That lingers in the lines like you Lover in your shame.
Watch the percolator boiling much to long,
We'll make excuses later, but I like my coffee strong.

And I say, 'Please, please, stay with me and I'll show you my devotion.'
You say, 'No no no. We must go and hide our love across a lake so frozen'.
